A Note from our Festival Director

It is indeed the end of 2016, how time really flies.

Looking back in retrospect, we have outdone ourselves again this year with little things that we planned to make KLEFF2016 better than ever.

This year we learned that the demand for environmental protection is ever increasing. Malaysians know what they want, and we want to be the forefront of global environmental movement. We hear you.

So what’s in store for KLEFF2017? Let me give you a hint: the 10th anniversary, that’s all I can say ;)

Finally, 2017 is coming in a few days and we all are just as enthusiastic as everyone. Let 2017 be a positive year to propagate action towards being more responsible citizens and together we truly can change the world.

Thank you to everyone for your continuous support and we will certainly knock on your doors again in January to share with you our plans for KLEFF2017.

‘A Last Stand for Lelu’ screened in Knights of Nature Sustainability Camp 2016

Farhan M. Umedaly As you all know 9th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) was held from 14th October until 16th October 2016. The festival itself had awards in various category such as Best Film Feature, Best Short Documentary, Best Short Film, Best Public Service Announcement, Best Animation, JRK-UNDP Energy Efficiency in Building Award, Young Film Maker Award and Special Jury Award.

At the 9th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF), 'A Last Stand for Lelu' directed by Farhan M. Umedaly from West Vancouver BC Canada, was awarded as the Best Short Documentary. He has various background in neurobiology, renewable energy, sales & marketing and is a multi-instrumentalist music producer. Mr. Farhan has more than 17 years of experience in digital audio and video production which is known as VoVo production. Mr. Farhan Umedaly spoke about his film after receiving the award for best short documentary.

We screened this film in one of our flagship projects known as Knights of Nature (KON) Sustainability Camp 2016 in Johor Baharu at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) from 24th until 26th November 2016. After the film screening, participants revealed their solutions during the reflection session that may help the maritime environmental problems.

There were several feedback from the participants after watching the film.

Participants realized that they need to love and care for Mother Nature;
They felt grateful to not have faced similar environmental problems faced in Lelu;
Participants decided to educate and encourage their family and friends to be concerned about the environment.

MyHijau Selfie Competition Winner Gets A Free Ride in Tesla Brought by GreenTech Malaysia.

In this 9th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) there were various competition for kids and adults. In order to give people the rare opportunity to experience a drive in Tesla brought by one of our KLEFF partners, GreenTech Malaysia, the competition MyHijau Selfie Competition was organized.

The winner, Mr. Ahmad Daud had an opportunity for a drive in Tesla with Mr.Ir. Ahmad Hadri Haris, the Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia). To watch his experience in Tesla, click photo below:

Advantages of Electric Car, TESLA

Tesla has several big competitive advantages:

Firstly, Tesla is charged by the electricity that we provide, hence a reduction in gas consumption.
This car is fuelled for a cheaper price compared to other cars.
Apart from that, there is no emission by using this electric car – that’s one Eco-friendly car for you.

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL KUALA LUMPUR ECO FILM FESTIVAL

Now in its 9th year, the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival, produced by environmental NGO, EcoKnights features environment-themed documentary, feature, animated, archival, and experimental and children's films from around the world. KLEFF showcases ground breaking films, traversing the relationship between humans and their environments, challenging the way people think about the natural world and inspiring them to discuss, explore and act on important environmental issues. The films will be shown at various venues around Kuala Lumpur, including art spaces, cafes, universities, high schools, corporate officers and community theatres. Filmmakers and special guests will discuss their work at the festival. Most screenings are free to the public and include discussion with filmmakers or scientists on emerging environmental concerns and issues.

The Festival’s signature programs include the Green Market, Film Making Workshops, the KLEFF Awards Night, Green Vibes and more. The Festival hosts a number of juried cash awards, as well as audience awards.
